About Us
Friends of Agassiz is an independent not-for-profit corporation (501c3) governed by its by-laws and must file annual reports with the IRS and the Illinois Secretary of State. This arrangement allows contributions made by individuals or businesses to be exempt from income taxes and thereby provides a method for members of the school community to raise additional funds to support the school.
In school year 2009-10, its fundraising and outreach activities raised over $65,000, brought in about 100 new families to the school, and helped improve the school's image by improving the school's Web site, establishing a Friends of Agassiz Facebook page, and repainting the school auditorium. For school year 2010-11 it plans to continue raising more funds and improving its communication to parents and the community.
The Board of Directors holds monthly meetings at the school, usually the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm, and welcome all interested parents and community members.
